First Chris Pratt, and now Channing Tatum. FINALLY we can expect to see more men being objectified on our screens - yaaaaaa!
While Channing didn't go into great detail regarding the debate, he did say the following at the Sydney premiere of Magic Mike XXL yesterday: "I'm all for the equal opportunity objectification of everyone." And that's good enough for us. Particularly as he said it in the vicinity of someone wielding a banner emblazoned with the words "I want to Channing on your Tatum"...
The film's producer, Reid Carolin, said in an interview with The Guardian Australia: "Men in Hollywood are used to being able to fit into any kind of role that they’d like to [while] women, whether playing a stripper or an everyday woman, have this pressure to fit a certain body type... We are objectifying men and saying women can look at men the same way men have been looking at women on screen for years."
Tatum's cohort, Pratt, had previously said "I think it’s appalling that for a long time only women were objectified... I think if we really want to advocate for equality, it’s important to even things out."
It's a long time coming but, sure, better late than never.
