You DO know her. She won American Idol several lifetimes ago and has since been busy straddling the worlds of pop and country (she's not quite as pop as Taylor Swift, and not quite as country as Miranda Lambert, hence why you may be struggling to place her). In short, she's a big deal in America, hence the hoo-haw.

Anyway, her pregnancy announcement is trending across the globe, so here are the details as we know them. There are cute dogs involved.

The 31-year-old and husband Mike Fisher announced on Twitter last night that they're expecting their first child together. The blonde posted a picture of her sitting with her two dogs Ace and Penny wearing T-shirts saying: "I'm going to be a big brother," and, "I'm going to be a big sister." Alongside the snap, she tweeted: 'In honor of 'Labor' Day... Ace & Penny would like to make an announcement. Their parents couldn't be happier! (sic).' Someone would want to let her know it's a little more full on than keeping dogs, but sure she'll reach the conclusion herself in a timely fashion.

The new parents-to-be, who began dating in 2008 after meeting at one of her concerts, became engaged in December 2009 and tied the knot six months later at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation, in Greensboro, Georgia, in front of 250 guests.

Meanwhile, Carrie previously praised her husband for having the ability to calm her nerves before a big performance.

She said in June this year: "If I'm nervous, he'll be like, 'C'mon, you have nothing to be nervous about. Just go do what you do and take a deep breath and say a little prayer and you're good to go.' Just being able to get a little kiss and go about my way, it definitely has a calming effect."
