Billboard Awards 2012: Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Alicia Keys...
We've gone a bit Cannes crazy in here, so we thought we'd take a look at last night's 2012 Billboard Awards which involved far more interesting red carpet appearances than we've seen so far from France.
One thing you won't find at Cannes is Justin Bieber. The more we see him, the more he morphs into a diamond earring-wearing over-plucked girlfriend of Selena Gomez. Could he have a more feminine face?
As per MTV, the little (wo)man was billed as one of the main 'record-smashing' performers for the evening alongside Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and the one act sure to give me a migraine - LMFAO. A great night was had by all accounts as homage was paid to recently departed musical heroes like Whitney Houston and Donna Summer while the younger folk celebrated all that's to come for the next generation of music-making.
Whitney's daughter Bobbi Kristina was there to accept the Billboard Millennium Award on behalf of her late mother. "I just really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all," she said. "Not just when it was good, but when it was bad too ... thank you so much for showing that much love, because she deserved it."
No one will be too surprised or give a rat's ass to learn that Bieber, Perry and Swift scooped most of the coveted awards so let's not bother with that. More importantly let's point out the highs and lows to be had on the white carpet.
Working it to a tee was Alicia Keys, Jordin Sparks, Julie Bowen (Modern Family) and Katy Perry's granny. Seems she's rubbing off somewhat on her grandaughter though as Katy opts for not only a purple rinse but purple lips and a purple dress too. Guilding the lilly there Katy. And I may be on my own here but I'm quite liking Usher's blue suit.
Meanwhile we're far from keen on Miley Cyrus's get up (very Girls Aloud circa 2005 with her baps half out and that jacket's a little short to have forgone the skirt/trousers). Nor are we enthused by Carrie Underwood's grey meringue. And as for Natasha Bedingfield? Bleuuuurgh on both accounts (those shoes!)
Best dressed for the evening goes to those charming lads from The Wanted, looking ever so sophisticated, and Taylor Swift who, in this red number, is jaw-droppingly beautiful. Simple, elegant and not a misplaced Angelina-style left leg in sight. Well played Taylor, well played.
