The actress won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in for her role in the 2012 musical film Les Miserables. However, Anne said that the moment was not all that uplifting.

In an interview with The Guardian, she explained how she still felt in the frame of mind of her tragic character: ‘I felt very uncomfortable. I kind of lost my mind doing that movie and it hadn’t come back yet. Then I had to stand up in front of people and feel something I don’t feel which is uncomplicated happiness.’

The 33 year old also explained that she felt guilty in the privilege of her situation: ‘It’s an obvious thing, you win an Oscar and you’re supposed to be happy. I didn’t feel that way. I felt wrong that I was standing there in a gown that cost [$80,000, which is] more than some people are going to see in their lifetime, and winning an award for portraying pain that still felt very much a part of our collective experience as human beings.

‘I tried to pretend that I was happy and I got called out on it, big time. That’s the truth and that’s what happened. It sucks.’

The Interstellar actress has in the past generated a lot of ‘Hathahaters’ and even inspired an article titled ‘Why Does Everyone Hate Anne Hathaway?’ In a later interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she said she felt like she had been ‘punched in the gut’ when she discovered the piece, but also acknowledged: ‘I've grown from it. This whole thing has made me a way more compassionate and loving person. And I don't feel sorry for myself.’

She is currently shooting female reboot Ocean’s Eight.
