When a young family member of yours gets engaged, it's usually a time of happiness and celebration - but when that family member is engaged to the world's biggest pop star after just a few weeks of dating, it's quite another matter.

Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber announced their intention to marry in June, which raised more than a few eyebrows considering that Bieber's on-off relationship with Selena Gomez had only recently come to an end.

Now, her uncle Alec Baldwin has weighed in on the matter while trying to be as diplomatic as possible.

He told People magazine while at the Toronto International Film Festival: “People who get married young — and they are very young — I want them to just spend time with each other. Obviously, him, in particular, has this crazy superstar career.”

He added that there was no harm in waiting to marry, as he had. "I’m quite a bit older than both of them, but I got married recently, a few years ago. And my wife [Hilaria] and I had four kids in four-and-a-half years. We have a lot of little kids.”

So far, Hailey's dad Stephen has not publicly commented on the prospect of Bieber being his future son-in-law - although they have been seen hanging out together, and Baldwin reportedly gave Bieber his blessing to ask for his daughter's hand in marriage.
