Long before some celebrities you know and love had houses the size of football pitches, they were leading normal lives and shacked up with housemates just like the rest of us. Some of which, were people who shared the same profession as them, and ultimately they would go on to reach a similar level of fame together.

What we wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall of some of these homes back in the day...

1. Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito

Back in the '60s, this pair shared an apartment in New York just as both their careers were beginning to take off. Danny was the sloppy one, according to Michael, who did the laundry (he says), but described it as 'a magical time'.

No wonder they're always turning up in each other's movies.

2. Liam Cunningham and Michael Fassbender

These two lived together when filming 'Hunger' to prepare for the film's unbroken 17 minute 10 second continuous shot in which Father Dominic Moran tries to talk Bobby Sands out of the Hunger Strike.

Liam moved into Fassbender's apartment to prepare where they rehearsed the scene 12-15 times per day. The actors then got it perfect after just four takes on the first day of filming.

3. Jonah Hill and Justin Long

These two are best friends for years, although living together nearly tore them apart as they fought like an old married couple apparently. They went on to get their own places and all is now well in the Jonah and Justin bromance.

4. Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts

These two Aussie ladies actually go way back and were friends long before the bright lights of Hollywood came calling. Naomi even moved in with Nicole to support her friend after her split from Tom Cruise, with Nicole saying; "Naomi is like my sister. She moved into my house when I got divorced and took care of me."

N'aww.

5. Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams

In order to get their dynamic just right for their flick Blue Valentine, they moved in together while filming. They even had a mock Christmas and struggled on a tight budget - now that's commitment. Michelle later said that Gosling was just lovely to live with and did a lot of the cooking and cleaning as she was a busy mother so he wanted to give her a break from it.

Gosling, you dreamboat, you.

6. Jude Law and Ewan McGregor

These two lived together in Los Angeles in 1990 just before their careers took off. Apparently it came about when a director gave them $30 to go get drunk together - and a lifelong friendship was formed. The pair went on to set up the British film and theatre production company Natural Nylon back in 1997.

7. Lea Michele and Dianna Agron

These Glee co-stars may have been frenemies on screen but they were besties off, sharing an apartment together when filming the show. Michele told New York Magazine; "We have these smackdowns at work and come home and are like, 'Wasn't it so funny when we were fighting today? Let's make cookies!'" The pair's apartment was the main hangout for the cast at the time, however it all came to an end when Dianna had to move out as she was allergic to Lea's cats.

8. Robin Williams and Christopher Reeve

These two, sadly now departed greats, were true best friends for life. They lived together while studying at the Juilliard School of Drama where they both promised each other that whoever 'made it' first would help the other. Williams gave Reeves a great deal of support after his accident in 1995 which left him paralysed, while Williams also vowed to take care of Christopher and his wife's son after they both passed away.

Matthew Reeve said last year; "Their relationship was more than a friendship. It was a brother hood."

9. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon

Not too much of a surprise that these two once shared a pad. Matt and Ben have been friends since they were kids when they attended the same school and met through their mothers. The Good Will Hunting directors shared an apartment when they were writing the Oscar winning flick, that would ultimately launch both their careers.

10. Robert Downey Jr. and Kiefer Sutherland

This pair shared an apartment for three years when they first moved to Hollywood back in the eighties - we'd imagine that was quite the party house.

It didn't work out too badly though as the pair ended up co-starring in the flick '1969'.

11. Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman

These Hollywood legends shared an apartment in New York for a while after taking classes at Pasadena Playhouse, while Dustin also shared with Robert Duvall while studying at the The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in 1955.

So now.
