Dublin Pride LGBTQ Festival Launch 2012
Dublin will decking itself out in rainbow colours again from June 22nd as the Dublin LGBTQ Pride Festival 2012 kicks off for a glorious 10 day run, culminating in the Pride Parade and obligatory post-Pride Parade street party “Pride in the Park”. Launching the festival programme Tuesday night were festival chairperson Jo McNamara, Alternative Miss Ireland 2012 winner Miss Minnie Mélange and this years Pride Parade Grand Marshall Miss Panti Bliss.
Pulling out all the stops, Jo McNamara wants everyone to know they’re invited, and that a lot of events are very budget friendly. “This years’ programme lists numerous events that are free of charge and everyone is more than welcome to attend, and we hope the citizens of Dublin join in our celebrations by supporting us.”
As Grand Marshall, Miss Panti Bliss will be doing her best royal wave as the parade crosses the city centre on Saturday June 30th, saying “I am was honoured to be asked to be the Parade Grand Marshall, particularly because this year the parade route has changed and we finish at Merrion Square, which is also where we’ll have our Post-Parade party for the first time”. Said route will now march from the Gardens of Remembrance as usual, but instead of crossing the Liffey and turning down Dame St from College Green, will continue around Trinity College and head up Kildare St and onto Baggot St before the festivities kick off in Merrion Square.
The programme launch was attended by councilors, TD's, Senators and directors of gay community groups from all over Ireland, and one of our favourites, RTÉ’s Brendan Courtney.
(Rainbow) colour us excited.
