Boubacar Traoré

Boubacar Traoré

"Boubacar Traoré is one of the great veteran exponents of the African blues, a guitarist, singer and songwriter with a long, and sometimes pained history"
(The Guardian, 2011)

Legendary Malian guitarist Boubacar Traore (aka 'Kar-Kar')is a founding father of modern Mandingo music. His unique guitar technique stands at the crossroads between his kora influences and his intuitive affinity with the styles of the Delta blues masters of America's Deep South. In the '60s, in the heady days of independence, he was the first to play Mandingo-based music on electric guitar and a string of hits provided the soundtrack for the new freedom.

Boubacar Traoré has in recent years taken his place among the superstars of Malian music, a country that even by African standards seems to yield more musical talent per square foot than anywhere else on the planet.
Boubacar will play in the intimate and atmospheric surroundings of the Unitarian Church, Dublin 2 prior to headlining the 30th anniversary WOMAD festival in the UK.
