k.d. lang - Invincible Summer

 rated 2

Review Date: 01 August 2000

Falling in love is a dangerous thing for an artist to do - somehow that
feeling of inner contentment always seems to come at the expense of their creative edge. The symptoms are plain to see in the new album from Canadian chanteuse k.d. lang. Her silky voice is as beautiful as ever but these songs of Californian romance are nowhere near as compelling as her best work. It's melodic lounge pop for the most part, with a languid, summery feel which somehow never manages to excite. Let's hope the affair doesn't last.
