Fast approaching his 70th birthday, country veteran Willie Nelson shows no signs of wanting to rest on his laurels. The Great Divide is set to provide his career with yet another shot in the arm, a sterling collection of new songs, covers and duets with such diverse talents as Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt and Kid Rock. As you might expect, the quality control here varies wildly, but the best moments such as Nelson's version of Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time would be prime candidates for any future Best Of compilation. And while elsewhere the grizzled old outlaw strays into MOR territory, there's no denying that he remains as affecting a singer as ever. This won't go down as a seminal Willie Nelson record, but for sheer entertainment The Great Divide is hard to beat.
