Once in a while, just about every pop star gets a bit fed up with the constant media attention they have to endure. Most of them, thankfully, manage to resist the temptation to write an entire album about it. Sadly, this is not the case with the veteran queen of the power ballad, Whitney Houston, whose latest effort is dominated by diatribes against people who make nasty remarks about her health, appearance and turbulent marriage to Bobby Brown. "God is the reason my soul is free And I don't need you lookin' at me," she spits on the single and standout track 'Whatchulookinat?', which rather begs the question as to why she wants to be a performer in the first place. The frustrating thing is that musically Just Whitney is really rather good, a stirring mixture of funky beats and feisty melodies that finds Houston singing just as well as she ever did. Ultimately, however, her obsession with her own personality is likely to prove just too overbearing for the average listener - which, given the lady's immense vocal talent, is a real shame.
