For the past 25 years an (almost) annual series of concerts have been taking place in Mountain View, California, organised by Neil Young and his wife Pegi to benefit the Bridge School which educates and assists children with severe physical impairments and communication needs. Over the course of its history, it has staged performances from Bruce Springsteen, Fleet Foxes, Pearl Jam, Sonic Youth, R.E.M., Paul McCartney, Thom Yorke, The Who, Brian Wilson and, of course, Neil Young himself - all of whom appear on this two disc collection.

More so by practice than as a rule, performers at the Bridge School benefit concerts are encouraged to play acoustic, meaning that the versions of the songs, like Metallica's 'Disposable Heroes' or Pearl Jam's 'Better Man', are fresh and enduring listens. As far as big names goes too, this collection has considerable star power from different generations standing side-by-side, such as Fleet Foxes being sandwiched in between Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young, or Thom Yorke sharing the same CD as Tony Bennett.

There's hardly a slow point among the tracks. Fleet Foxes 'Blue Ridge Mountains' is spectacular, as in Brian Wilson's 'Surfin' USA' but Thom Yorke's cover of Neil Young's 'After The Gold Rush' is perhaps the singular standout amongst the 25 tracks. The Bridge School Concerts is a worthy addition to any record collection. And it's all for a good cause too.
