Travis - The Invisible Band

 rated 3

Review Date: 11 June 2001

Travis hit the pop jackpot with their last album The Man Who and their new effort suggests they see absolutely no reason to change a winning formula. The Invisible Band (so-called because of Fran Healy and co's total lack of image) is almost a carbon copy of its predecessor: catchy hooks, breezy melodies and vague lyrics about apathy and hopelessness. While some of the songs pass by without making much of an impression, there are four or five massive hits-in-waiting here which should ensure that these unpretentious Scots remain the people's choice for some time yet. It's a decent enough album, but ultimately you get the feeling Travis are just that little bit too complacent and conservative to ever really get the heart racing.
