Back in the sixties Tim Goulding played with the notoriously self-indulgent psychedelic folk band Dr Strangely Strange. This earnest Celtic-inspired album, produced from his home in west Cork, shows that old habits die hard. It's clearly been a labour of love; over thirty musicians helped to create the heady mix of styles which includes sea shanties, congas and ethnic raps. Midnight Fry has moments of quiet beauty but its general air of flower power philosophy tends to grate when consumed in large doses.
