After the Waterboys' frontman Mike Scott's last two solo albums bombed, he admitted defeat and started to record under his old band's name - although it should be pointed out that they don't actually appear on the record. Anyway the music is the important thing and against all the odds Scott has produced some of his best work ever. These are huge, swirling guitar songs with epic arrangements crowned by Scott's trademark fiery vocals. One of the most surprising comebacks of the year - and one of the most welcome too.
