The problem with making it young is that you've then got to do your growing up in public. The Revs were an irreverent breath of fresh air when they first came on the scene four years ago, but it seems that the Donegal lads are now desperate to be taken seriously. So, no more pantomime appearances with Dustin the Turkey, and no more jokey punk songs - this is their more mature sound, and they want it to be seen as their debut album proper. It sounds a bit dodgy, but thankfully there's no need to get out the pipe and slippers just yet - this is still pop music, it's just that they're now modelling themselves on the jangly Teenage Fanclub rather than the bratty Green Day. And, as re-inventions go, this one is highly successful. A gloriously entertaining album, and a bright sign for the Revs' future.
