The Osbournes - Family Album

 rated 2

Review Date: 24 June 2002

How must Ozzie Osbourne's hardcore fans be feeling? Not only has the veteran Brummie metaller become a cuddly institution through the unlikely medium of a family documentary, he's now chosen to cash in by releasing what must count as the trashiest album of his career. A ragbag of re-recorded Osbourne originals and hackneyed covers such as 'Imagine' and 'Wonderful Tonight', this is essentially a glorified karaoke session, belted out by Ozzie, Sharon and the kids with a cheerful lack of good taste. A few bright spots raise the tone somewhat, such as the moment when daughter Kelly shows up her old man with a rousing version of Madonna's 'Papa Don't Preach'. Such moments are few and far between, however, and when an album's best bits are made up of the dialogue between the tracks, you know there's something seriously wrong. To put it politely, not exactly essential listening.
