The Ordinary Boys - Brass Bound
Review Date: 01 July 2005
Rightly or wrongly, calling yourself the Ordinary Boys sends out the subliminal message, 'Don't expect too much from us.' As far as their second album goes, it's pretty good advice. Not that Brass Bound is a disaster, exactly - it's just that the Boys' artless recycling of old Clash riffs and Madness ska beats has become a lot less interesting than it was when they first appeared on the scene. It's also very obvious that the endless touring in promotion of their debut has left them with little or no time to develop any new ideas. They're still a likeable bunch, and a few stomping Two-Tone tracks at least help to make this a half-decent party record. But if you're looking for anything remotely special, you've come to the wrong place.
