Three CDs worth of songs about love from New York maverick Stephin Merritt might sound like a daunting experience. But it's an album of such style and diversity that you won't regret the effort. The music ranges from gospel to Europop while the lyrics are consistently dark, cruel and twisted. Brian Wilson is a big fan and you can see why. Impressive and original -but edited down to a single CD it would have been a masterpiece.
