The Magic Numbers - The Magic Numbers
Review Date: 22 June 2005
The Magic Numbers are a hippy's wet dream. Made up of two sets of siblings who've clearly never been within a million miles of a stylist, they make sweet, child-like pop that evokes the innocence of a bygone age. Luckily, their wide-eyed charm turns out to be backed up by sheer raw talent. True, the elements that make up their sound - infectious hooks, blissful harmonies, lovelorn lyrics - aren't exactly original. But their treatment certainly is, with songs that veer between fast and slow, stopping and starting in the most unexpected places. No surprise that Brian Wilson has asked the Numbers to support him on his upcoming tour - this is music that's positively dripping with good vibrations. Expect an awful lot of people to fall under their spell.
