The Killers are almost as brash and arrogant as Oasis, the band that inspired them to form in the first place. The main difference, of course, is that while the Gallagher brothers are clearly over the hill, this Las Vegas four-piece are young, hungry and churning out classic rock songs as if it's the easiest thing in the world. They also happen to write much better lyrics, mainly inspired by the bizarre characters encountered by frontman Brandon Flowers back in his native city. This debut album is stuffed with urgent hooks and thrilling melodies, the only real drawback being that at times it all tends to get a little bit too frantic. A quick word with Morrissey, one of their biggest fans, would tell them that you don't always have to shout at the top of your voice to be heard. Still, Hot Fuss is one of the must-have albums of the summer - and, with any luck, a mere taster of what's to come from this ferociously talented outfit
