The Honeymoon - Dialogue

 rated 2

Review Date: 04 August 2004

The Honeymoon are one of those bands who look a lot more interesting than they sound. Featuring a London boy, Wayne, and an Icelandic girl, Thorunn, the duo's original name was the Lovers - although, boringly, they insist that they're just good friends. Their sample-based sound is obviously aiming for the chill-out cool of Zero 7, together with the novelty of male-female vocals (hence the album's title). It's not a bad formula at all, but no amount of packaging can make up for the fact that the Honeymoon's songs simply aren't very good. True, there are some pretty string arrangements and their voices blend well together - but with one lacklustre track after another, it's hard to keep your interest from flagging. Sadly, despite its initial promise, this is one partnership that could be heading for an early divorce
