After over a decade on the go, The Frames have a good claim to being the best-loved indie band in Ireland. Even their biggest fans, however, would have to concede that their records have never quite captured the intensity and excitement of their best live performances. A concert album is, therefore, long overdue - and now that it's finally here, it has to be said that Set List is just about as good as anyone could have hoped for. Recorded over four nights in Dublin's Vicar St, it captures Glen Hansard and the cohorts in magnificent form and features a selection of old favourites such as 'Revelate' and 'Star Star' as well as a few surprises (Johnny Cash's 'Ring of Fire' and a new track, 'The Blood'). Like all live albums, Set List is nowhere near as good as actually being there on the night. As an aural document for posterity, however, it does exactly what it says on the tin - and nicely whets the appetite for The Frames' next studio effort.
