The Donnas - Spend the Night

 rated 4

Review Date: 14 April 2003

The Donnas are not exactly the most complicated band in the world. Put simply, these four young Californian ladies see themselves as the female Ramones - and while they're not quite accomplished enough to justify such comparisons, their brattish take on three-chord rock still manages to pack a fairly powerful punch. Spend The Night is their fifth album, and the one that should see them make the leap from cult act to mainstream stars. Packed with cheeky pop ditties about the joys of getting drunk, staying up late and teasing frustrated young men, it may not be fantastically sophisticated - but it's undeniably good fun if you're in that sort of mood. With Levi's and Budweiser signing the Donnas up to appear in their ads, there'll soon be no avoiding these girls - you might as well save time and submit to their charms now.
