More so than most other bands, the Dandy Warhols have a gang mentality. Courtney Taylor-Taylor and his cohorts carry themselves as if they're too cool to let anyone else into their world, and this arrogance has extended itself to their frustrating new album. At its core, Odditorium has a string of fine country-rock tunes with singalong choruses and hypnotically mumbling vocals. But to get to them you have to endure a seemingly endless string of psychedelic jams, some of which are over nine minutes long. The Dandies are genuinely gifted, and one of these days they could make an absolute classic. It would help a lot, though, if they got a producer who could let them know when their self-indulgence has finally gone too far.
