The Cardigans may be Sweden's most successful musical export since Abba, but their career hasn't exactly been an easy ride. Over the years there's been persistent musical differences between the doe-eyed Nina Persson and her less photogenic backing band, sometimes resulting in frustratingly patchy albums. Super Extra Gravity finds them going back to their poppier roots, although thankfully Persson's dispassionate vocals rescue it from blandness. Lyrically we're in happy-sad territory, the enjoyably melancholic sensibility that the Scandinavians do so well. Crucially, the production is glossy enough to be commercial but also hard enough to be cool - a difficult balancing act, but one the Cardies manage to pull off with some aplomb. A real return to form.
