The 411 - Between the Sheets
Review Date: 23 December 2004
The Sugababes should watch out - they've got some serious competition for their status as Britain's sassiest girl group. The 411 may not have as much street cred as they let on - one of them owns a pony, for God's sake - but their polished urban pop is as slick as it comes. Blending hip-shaking R'n'B with the odd rap from the likes of Ghostface Killah, this is the kind of seductive ear-candy that's tailor-made for daytime radio. The only problem is that they sound so much like so many other girl bands (most obviously All Saints), the lack of originality gets a bit irritating after a while. Carolyn, Suzie, Tanya and Tisha all have distinctive voices, but do they also have personalities of their own? If they can show us a bit more, a lengthy and profitable career could well be theirs.
