Roots Manuva - Run Come Save Me

 rated 4

Review Date: 13 August 2001

With this excellent second album, Londoner Roots Manuva has breathed new life into the flagging genre of UK hip-hop. Quite simply, the man also known as Rodney Smith thinks that bit bigger than everyone else - the subject matter here ranges from Jamaican religion to British street culture, with cool, clear lyrics that get right to the heart of the matter. It's quality material all the way through, with innovative rhythms beautifully tailor-made to fit the demands of the modern dancefloor. Manuva's biggest asset, however, is his majestic vocals which give every track here an added dimension. Fantastic stuff.
