Timing is crucial in the music business, and Rooster's timing is just about as good as it gets. Now that Busted have finally lived up to their name, this floppy-haired, chiselled-cheekboned London quartet seem perfectly placed to inherit the much-coveted title of Britain's premier boyband-with-guitars. Their riff-heavy sound is certainly a lot more grown-up than anything Charlie Simpson ever came up with, but it comes complete with skyscraping choruses and a shiny production that's carefully airbrushed out all the rough edges. The rockier songs recall the majesty of early Def Leppard, the ballads stray dangerously close to (but just avoid) the MOR territory of Bryan Adams. It remains to be seen whether they can build on this mighty debut - but for now, Rooster are the undisputed kings of the rock farmyard.
