Ronan Keating - Ronan
Review Date: 31 July 2000
Say what you like about Ronan Keating but the man is a pro. So determined is the blue-eyed Boyzone star to make it on his own that for his debut album he's hired the best songwriters and producers money can buy. The upside of this is that everything here feels ultra-smooth and polished; the downside that it comes across as if designed by a committee determined to take no chances. Keating's husky voice works well enough on the punchy pop numbers but the album is weighed down by far too many maudlin ballads.
It'll do fine of course, but ultimately it's hard not to feel that Keating
is better at career management than he is at anything else.
