Radiohead - Kid A

 rated 2

Review Date: 03 October 2000

The most eagerly awaited album of the year - and it turns out to be a letdown of epic proportions. Radiohead's follow up to OK Computer (either the greatest or most overrated album of all time depending on your point of view) throws out their trademark blistering rock, self-lacerating lyrics and almost anything that's recognisable as a song. In their place we get montages of leftfield electronica which never really go anywhere. To be fair there are genuinely eerie and menacing moments but for the most part it's dreary, unengaging stuff. Kid A was reportedly hell to make and sadly, it shows. A monumentally misguided venture.
