R Kelly - TP3 Reloaded

 rated 3

Review Date: 13 July 2005

With his trial for child pornography still rumbling on, you'd think that R Kelly would want to stay off the subject of sex for a while. On TP3, however, he's banging away like a rabbit, using almost every track to boast about how his libido is in better shape than ever. Kelly is a fine soul singer, but since most of his vocals here are delivered in a semi-spoken drawl, you could be forgiven for thinking that you're listening to a porn movie soundtrack. Thankfully, there's a handful of lively star turns from the likes of Snoop Dogg and the Game to vary the mood - but best of all is 'Trapped in the Closet', a five-part soap opera about Kelly's affair with a married woman that cleverly uses a series of cliffhanging plot twists. It's good to see that he isn't letting his legal difficulties affect his social life. But before he returns to the studio, he really should take a long, cold shower.
