Probot - Probot

Every once in a while, rock stars feel the urge to do something completely off the wall. Such a mood took Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters recently, when he found himself at a bit of a loose end in his Virginia home. First, he went down to the basement and banged out some ear-splitting heavy metal tunes, playing every single instrument himself. Then - and this was the really smart move - he sent them out to some of his favourite singers, inviting them to add their own vocals. Whether or not Grohl, who is known to be a bit of a joker, was entirely serious about the whole thing is open to question. What's undeniable is that the results of this quirky experiment are frequently wonderful - especially a thunderous performance from the evergreen Lemmy that's streets ahead of anything he's done with Motorhead recently. If only all self-indulgent side projects sounded as good as this.
