Ozzy Osbourne - Under Cover

 rated 2

Review Date: 12 December 2005

Given all that's happened to him and his family over the last few years, it's easy to imagine that Ozzy Osbourne is past embarrassment. But really, if anything should embarrass him, it's this - his latest solo album and quite possibly his worst ever. As the title indicates, Under Cover features 'interpretations' of songs by Ozzy's favourite artists (Beatles, Stones, Cream) - which might have been fun if he'd performed them in his trademark headbanging metal style. Instead we get an unappetising mush of soft rock and tone-deaf crooning, leading you to suspect that the old hellraiser has overdosed on his medication. If you shut your eyes and imagine that you're in a Brummie karaoke club, this is just about bearable. Otherwise, you're left wondering why Sharon didn't talk him out of it.
