Dublin five piece Noise Control may be only releasing their first official single now, but the electro-rockers - headliners of last year's Spirit leg of the Hard Working Class Heroes festival and aspirants of the Ireland's Next Big Thing tag - have presumably merely been hanging back and waiting for the right moment to strike. Support slots with dance dignitaries such as The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Underworld and Mylo hasn't done them any harm, either; and all of this with a dodgy name and no record deal. Steel, that aforementioned single, is a swaggering swirl of pounding electro and mid-90s dance that sounds like it should have been played through the Hacienda's PA system back in the day. Incorporating components of the aforementioned Prodigy's hard-hitting dance crossover sound, as well as The Shamen's goofy fun, London-born MC Mark K.I.D. sounds like he was born to vent spleen into a mic, while b-sides include remixes by Dublin dance neo-royalty Star Little Thing and Les Bien. A totally unoriginal but decent debut offering, nonetheless.
