Rappers aren't exactly known for their modesty, but the arrogance of Nasir Jones is pretty breathtaking all the same. Not only has he made a double album when he clearly only has enough decent songs for one, he's released it with a cover showing him and his homies recreating the Last Supper, hip-hop style. In fairness, however, the best moments on Street's Disciple show that the New Yorker's self-belief isn't entirely misplaced. Nas isn't as musically adventurous as some of his rivals but he choose his lyrical targets carefully (police brutality, the Bush family, celebrity Uncle Toms) and his venomous raps almost always end up hitting the mark. And, since he's about to get married to Kelis, he's thoughtfully written a song that outlines his entire sexual history in all its gory detail. The only real problem is the album's erratic quality control - but maybe in the age of the iPod, that doesn't matter much any more.
