The million-selling Big Calm established Morcheeba as masters of the trip-hop genre so it's slightly surprising to see them adopt an upbeat pop sound for the follow-up. Some of the results are disappointingly trite, reminiscent of M People at their most banal, and a real waste of singer Skye's soulful vocals. Luckily there's plenty of exciting instrumentals to save the day, superbly crafted collages of smooth breakbeats, cinematic funk and up-tempo strings. Not an entirely successful album then, but more than enough quality to confirm Morcheeba as exceptional talents; it'll be fascinating to see where they go from here.
