Why does Peter Hook, the man who was such an integral part of dance legends New Order, now spend his days making harmless pop records under the name of Monaco? Whatever the reason, his second album (partnered with David Potts) is another likeable but ultimately forgettable collection of saccharine tunes, driven by breezy basslines and slick synthesisers. It all adds up to a kind of ersatz soul music which sounds fine when it's on but leaves little in the memory. Far from essential.
