Minnie Driver - Everything I've Got In My Pocket

You could be forgiven for being cynical about the prospect of an album by a Hollywood actress - after all, recent musical efforts by Keanu Reeves and Russell Crowe haven't exactly set the world on fire. In fairness to Minnie Driver, though, she actually had a recording contract just before her first big movie role led her down a different path. You can see what attracted such record company interest - her dreamy, semi-acoustic pop songs have the same wistful quality that's made Dido such a massive star. There's just one problem: after a while, they all begin to sound the blooming same. And while Driver's voice is pleasant and clear, it lacks the passion needed to make her stand out from the singer-songwriter crowd. The problem is highlighted by her painfully insipid cover of Bruce Springsteen's 'Hungry Heart', which will surely bring tears to the eyes of the Boss when he hears it. And not in a good way.
