Mary Lorson and Billy Cote are former members of Madder Rose, the New York indie band that garnered a significant cult following before their demise at the end of the nineties. Now embarked on solo projects Saint Low and Jazz Cannon, they've re-united for one more album - a low-key collection of gentle instrumentals that promises much but notably fails to deliver. In fact, most of these rather innocuous pieces, based around Lorson's delicate piano and Cote's slide guitar, are monotonous in the extreme and smack of a self-indulgence unworthy of such obvious talents. Tellingly, the album's one really resonant moment is the spacey 'See The Stars', which features Lorson's only proper vocal. The rest can only be described as worthy but very, very dull. Committed Madder Rose fans will want Piano Creeps for the sake of completeness - but sadly, there's very little here to interest anyone else.
