Ludacris obviously thinks he's a pretty fascinating guy. Just about every song on The Red Light District is about himself - his taste in women, his record sales, the problems he has when relatives try to get their hands on his money. Unfortunately, the Atlanta rapper is so busy trying to make us all feel deeply jealous of him, he's forgotten to write any decent lyrics for his new album. It's not a disaster by any means, but it does sound suspiciously like treading water - and at a time when the likes of Nas and Snoop Dogg are producing far more ambitious work, that just isn't good enough. In fairness to Luda, he's still one of the smarter chips off the hip-hop block and some neat musical samples (including the Austin Powers theme and 'You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two' from Oliver) are this album's saving grace. He just needs to produce a few more next time out to justify all the boasting.
