Low - Things We Lost In The Fire
Review Date: 06 February 2001
The Minnesotan trio Low have quietly built up a formidable reputation over the years, and this album, their sixth, may well be their finest moment to date. Things We Lost In The Fire is a deceptively simple yet utterly memorable record: elegant songs with shimmering melodies sung beautifully by Alan Sparhawk and his wife Mimi Parker. The lyrics may dwell on the most basic human emotions - grief, lust, joy - but Low somehow manage to give these familiar sentiments an original twist with a deft touch, that few bands can match. A quiet triumph.
