At first glance Lina looks like just another histrionic RandB diva, complete with designer angst. A closer look, however, reveals someone much more interesting. Her voice is a high-pitched, yet ultra-cool instrument that she uses to powerful effect against a meticulously arranged backing of clarinet, piano and saxophone. At its best, it's like being transported back to a cabaret show in a 1930's jazz club. OK, so the lyrical content gets a bit monotonous after a while - there's only so much you can say about the sex wars in three minutes - but this is still an exceptionally classy debut.
