Better read that title again carefully before buying this is not the definitive overview of Kylie Minogue's career, but rather a collection of hit singles from the era when the unholy trinity of Stock, Aiken and Waterman ruled the pop airwaves. So, instead of camp disco anthems such as Can't Get You Out Of My Head, this is made up of much more anodyne pop fare, of which The Locomotion, I Should Be So Lucky and the saccharine Jason Donovan duet Especially For You are probably the best remembered. Oddly, while this stuff was dismissed by the critics at the time as squeaky, tinny rubbish, its aged much better than some of what was supposedly cool at the time probably because of the melodies, which are of the once-heard-never-forgotten-whether-you-like-it-or-not variety. And even at her lowest ebb, the Australian sexpot maintained a sense of trashy fun that made her extremely hard to dislike. Even so, approach this album with caution she may be fashionable now, but the bulk of the material here shows that Kylie has quite a few musical skeletons in her closet most of which should really be left in peace.
