Joe Dolan - 00Joe
Review Date: 01 December 2004
In all the recent speculation about the identity of the next James Bond, the name of Joe Dolan has been mysteriously absent. On the cover of his new album, however, the Mullingar bachelor announces his availability for the role, posing in a natty tuxedo and flanked by a couple of head-turning dollybirds. It's just a shame that he hasn't gone the whole hog and recorded a whole record of Bond themes - instead 00Joe is a bit of a mish-mash, including a few Dolan originals and covers of such hardy perennials as Roy Orbison, the Hollies and Paul Brady. Nothing wrong with any of this, of course, but it's all a bit predictable and lacks the novelty value of his recent versions of more modern hits. Still, the album is well worth buying for the inclusion of a bonus DVD, featuring a typically sweaty live performance which proves that there's still no show like a Joe show.
