After the TV show, the makeovers and the saturation tabloid coverage, the debut album from Hear'Say finally comes as something of an anti-climax. The chart-topping single Pure and Simple is certainly a catchy slice of All Saints-style pop but unfortunately very few tracks here come close to matching its quality. Ultimately, Popstars feels less like a musical statement than a fashion accessory, something to be discarded in a few weeks time when the next media craze comes along.
