Glamma Kid, a smooth-looking 22-year-old Londoner, is currently being hotly tipped as the first ever British hip-hop star. His debut album is built around samples of 80s pop hits (Blondie, Eric Clapton etc.) skilfully mixed into songs about being a ruthless gangsta who knows his designer labels and is into 'tight virgins'. It's slick, professional and does exactly what it sets out to do. But it's hard to escape the feeling that the Kid's genuine talent for hardcore reggae has been dumbed down for a mainstream audience.
