When Feeder's troubled drummer John Lee hanged himself three years ago, it looked like the end of the line for a band who had always seemed like perennial underachievers. Since then, however, the Welsh trio have carried on with commendable fortitude, to the point where they're now one of Britain's most popular indie outfits. Their fifth album sees them moving further away from the grunge-lite stylings of their early days, towards the kind of epic rock sound that's proved so commercial for Coldplay and a host of would-be imitators. It's hard not to feel that Feeder are indulging in a little bandwagon-jumping here - but thankfully, Grant Nicholas's quavering voice and arresting lyrics means that their original character is still retained. Good to still have them around.
