Faultline is the alter ego of David Kosten, a techno producer who attracted plenty of critical praise for his haunting debut album Closer Colder. Good though that was, Your Love Means Everything is in an entirely different league - mainly because this time around Kosten has augmented his bleak electronic soundscapes with guest vocals from some of his famous friends. Coldplay's Chris Martin opens and closes the album with a couple of remarkable performances way in excess of anything his own band has ever done, while REM's Michael Stipe lends his anguished tones to the Brothers Fours classic 'Greenfields'. Add in a hazy psychedelic interlude courtesy of the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne and you have a near classic on your hands. A shame, then, that Your Love Means Everything is frequently let down by Kosten's instrumental compositions, which sound pale and colourless by comparison. Still, a good, moody listen.
