Eric Clapton - Reptile
Review Date: 06 March 2001
Poor old Eric Clapton may be one of the least fashionable people in pop but his first solo album for three years shows that he still has something to offer. Reptile is a placid, enjoyably low-key collection of blues guitar and warm, tender vocals presented without any adornment or studio trickery. There are some fine songs here for those prepared to listen, and unlike Clapton's live performances, self-indulgent solos are kept to a minimum. Even if the album ultimately feels more efficient than inspired, it's still far more impressive than many critics would have you believe.
